Founded in 1999 by Dave Gau, ShaveFX is a motion design and animation studio in Richmond, Virginia delivering high-quality animation and visual effects for regional and international clients. What began as a small studio quickly grew into a trusted production partner for agencies, brands, and production teams of all sizes.

Virginia Lottery Scratchers
A series of spots designed to build excitement each month over the latest and greatest scratcher games. ShaveFX collaborated with Broadscope Media in these spots, producing and animating all of the visuals.
Richmond Folk Festival
We were thrilled to contribute this fun character animation to VPM’s documentary celebrating the Richmond Folk Festival’s 10th year. If you’re interested in the full documentary, you can find it HERE!
State Learning Systems
Whiteboard Animations
ShaveFX helped create an explainer video in a whiteboard style of animation to help shed light on how states use academic research data to help improve education systems. Our Virginia video was so successful that we adapted and customized the approach for several other states, including Indiana, Alaska and Nevada.
LOI Insurance
Our background in comedy writing and performance was the perfect fit for Digital Cut Productions in Ft. Lauderdale. Sure, this piece has a simple & fun animnated logo, but ShaveFX was brought in to write, cast, direct & edit this spot for a local car insurance company looking to stand with the national companies on a local budget. Not motion graphics heavy by any stretch, but it sure was fun.
Pillownormal Activity
This one goes in the way back machine, but it’s a great example of a fun, creative and elaborate project. We teamed up with the Hodges Partnership to craft a unique video for a pillow company. What happens when your old pillows get replaced? ShaveFX not only produced all of the animation, but we also collaborated on the humorous script & storyboards, directed the voice talent, coordinated the live production and served on set as VFX supervisors.
